Professorship in Spatial Design
W 2 | unlimited | full time | Fakultät für Architektur | Campus Deutz
Your area of work
You represent the field of “Spatial Design” across both the Bachelor's and Master's programmes within the Faculty of Architecture and contribute to teaching in both core and elective modules. A particular focus of your role is the co-development of the English-language Master’s specialisation Spatial Strategies, offered in cooperation with the Köln International School of Design (KISD). You teach in both German and English at C1 level, combining architectural design with strategic spatial research. Your research enhances the faculty’s profile and contributes to the scholarly advancement of the discipline. You initiate interdisciplinary projects, secure third-party funding, and promote the transfer of knowledge between theory and practice. Furthermore, you are actively involved in academic self-governance and assume responsibility for the ongoing development of the university. |
Your profile
You possess the ability to align your thinking and actions with the university’s long-term strategic goals and to develop reliable, interdisciplinary, and collaborative solutions. This version maintains the formal, academic tone throughout and ensures linguistic precision and clarity.
You hold a university degree in architecture, ideally complemented by studies in the cultural or social sciences. You possess strong design and theoretical expertise in the fields of spatial design and architectural composition and hold a doctoral degree. In the absence of a doctorate, equivalent academic qualifications must be demonstrated through a written assessment by a university professor, to be submitted as part of the application. You work at the intersection of architecture, urban and spatial research and/or design. You can demonstrate at least five years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of three years outside the higher education sector. Your design approach integrates social, cultural, and technological transformation processes and operates across multiple scales — from interior spaces to global spatial concepts. You demonstrate subject-specific expertise through realised projects, innovative research, successful competition entries, and academic publications. You have experience in higher education, supervise design projects at both Bachelor's and Master's level, and teach in both German and English. Your research is interdisciplinary and practice-based, with a proven record in third-party funded projects and international collaborations. A critical engagement with spatial transformation processes and transdisciplinary research approaches defines your academic profile. |
