That awaits you

  • Participation in the multidisciplinary research project TabulaRasa, focusing on the materials-based investigation of historical wax tablets from antiquity to the early modern period
  • Development, evaluation and application of separation methods (GC-MS, PyGC-MS and DEP-MS) to identify the organic components in wax mixtures
  • Based on analytical results, production of material and historically informed reconstructions for rheological, deformation and flow tests
  • Application of FTIR and SEM-EDX for the characterisation of pigments additives and reaction products
  • Publication of research results in scientific journals and at international conferences
  • Assistance with the maintenance and servicing of equipment (e.g., GC-MS instruments)
  • Independent teaching (1 SWS) in the master’s module Experimental Design and Investigative Methods
  • Independent project-based research with the goal of earning a Ph.D.
Your skills

  • Master’s degree in archaeometry, chemistry, materials science, conservation science, or a related field
  • Knowledge in the application of separation methods, particularly GC-MS
  • Methodological knowledge in the field of materials analysis (e.g., FTIR and SEM/EDX)
  • Ideally, knowledge of the principles and methods of rheologogical studies
  • Proficiency in standard MS Office programs and, ideally, data analysis software (e.g., MatLab)
  • Very good English and German language skills
  • Independent, reliable, and analytical approach to thinking and working
  • Strong ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams
  • Interest and innovative ideas contributing towards a Ph.D. in this field
